Jannah’s pup is pictured above. Her name is Dallas, but she has many names: Dilly, Dill Pickle, Dillie Eillish, Delilah, and Delaylay.

HERC was founded by Jannah Bachrouche (she/her) after six years of working in the startup world as an operator. Jannah has always gravitated towards People/HR responsibilities & roles throughout her career, whether explicitly or indirectly. She realized she wanted to change how companies, employees, & leaders viewed/understood Human Resources.

As a Queer, Lebanese, Cis woman, Jannah saw that safe & inclusive workplaces were not as widely established as they should be - especially in Tech. DEIB (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Belonging) has become something companies are & should be talking about. However, most companies don’t truly know the building blocks necessary for scalability or non-performative allyship.

Jannah believes investing in People/HR functions is something companies should do earlier because as you add more humans to your company, the complexities become more complex. Without the proper foundations in place, the hyper-growth may result in issues with culture, retention, leadership, hiring, & even larger systemic issues.

The saying goes, “short-term sacrifice = long-term gain.” We would rephrase “short-term investment + continued iteration = long-term gain.” The pandemic began to bring awareness to the importance of investing in People/HR. If you don’t believe us, look at our Resources page to check out some articles about it!

With all this said, most companies may not prioritize hiring a full-time HR/People person. Whether it’s due to expense, lack of knowledge of the function, company size, or economic recession. Conversely, larger companies may lack the infrastructure & awareness to affect change at a larger scale. This is where HERC comes in! We can help lay those foundations or rebuild them.

Fun Fact: The inspiration for the business name, ‘HERC’, came from the Disney movie Hercules and subsequently Jannah’s pup!
